A Photo Collection of All Penguin Species in the World

The years-long photography project The Kingdom of Penguins concluded in December 2024, resulting in a photo collection featuring every penguin species in the world. Depending on classification, there are either 18 or 19 species, along with several subspecies that are visually indistinguishable from their parent species.

Why Penguins?

Penguins are charming and endearing birds whose appearance often brings a smile to one’s face. However, that smile fades when looking into their future. Penguins inhabit regions where warming ocean waters affect their food sources, which in turn impacts their reproduction rates. While some species are still thriving, others are already on the brink of extinction. The number of penguin species is under serious threat, with Galapagos penguins at the greatest risk. Globally, only about 600 breeding pairs remain, and their numbers are declining.

See you at Matkamessu in Helsinki on 17-19 January Finnish Photo Tours Oy stand 7F108.
